Jessica Simpson is Pregnant - There Goes My Fantasy Football Season
July 20th, 2008I just got a call from a source whose friend shares her OBGYN with Jessica Simpson. She said in no uncertain terms that Jessica was in the office right before her last week and that there’s confirmation that she’s pregnant. Update: She had a sonogram, but no word yet on boy or girl.
Yes. You heard it here first. Jessica Simpson is pregnant.
The natural assumption is that Tony Romo, the Dallas Cowboys quarterback, is the dad.
While I’m happy for the couple and Ms. Simpson in particular, and I can’t wait to indulge in the melange of tabloid coverage, my immediate concern for my fantasy football team. I’m screwed.
We all remember how Romo performed last year against the Eagles with Jessica in attendance, doffed in pink Romo #9 jersey. He was miserable. He threw three interceptions and fumbled twice and the Cowboys got served. The press had a field day attributing Romo’s disastrous performance to Jessica’s highly profiled presence, labeling it the Jessica Curse.
Here’s the real problem. Romo is one of my keeper players for the upcoming fantasy football season. For those who care, that means that I’ve paid a premium to hold on to him from my previous year roster. I’m banking on him to score big on Sundays. We’re only a matter of weeks away from season beginning, now isn’t the time to be distracted.
Romo’s the linchpin of my offense and the lead cog in my strategy to defend my championship and win my league for the third consecutive season. I can’t have him distracted by pregnancy for the next 7 months. I need him thinking about coverages, blitz packages, audibles at the line of scrimmage, clock management, the position of the laces on the pigskin before the snap, winning the big game. All that good stuff!
What’s the chance that Romo will be able to tune out the impending tabloid noise and tighten his focus on game day? What’s the chance that he’ll defy the Jessica Curse and give her the love and empathy that she’ll need during this period while still fulfilling his obligation to the Dallas Cowboys and the millions of fantasy football team managers that have him rated as their leader? What’s the chance he’ll overcome and march my team down the fantasy field and closer to that down payment on a house in Malibu?
Looks like I’ll be drafting Brett Favre as a backup this year.

Seems like you should be getting involved with FANTASY US WEEKLY - Romo is a keeper in that league for sure. As is Jess…

First of all, there is NO SUCH THING as a Jessica Curse. She attended the game in November which Cowboys had won. There were also rumours of her attending other Cowboys games which they won as well. Just because she happened to sit somewhere the TV cameras spotted her, doesn’t mean she was the cause of Romo’s poor performance at the Eagles game. Get it??

Joe simpson must be the source of the news.
